Up early in Mayo on Sunday morning and the long trip back up to Dublin for the days play in the under 10s boys and girls division.
And what a day it was for the MAYO players
In the under 10s girls it was a tough day for the three Mayo girls Marie Williams Niamh Malloy and Tara Malloy
After the first round of group matches Tara made it to the plate event while her sister Niamh and Marie Williams progressed to the semi-finals were they were drawn to meet each other.
For the pair it was their first national tournament and to reach the semis was an achievement in itself. After a tough match Marie came out tops and Niamh had to settle for the third and fourth place playoff. the playoff was a tight affair and Niamh went down by three games to two.and had to settle for fourth place which was great for her first national event.
In the final Marie put up a great fight but narrowly lost three games to two but will be back next year for more. finishing second in a national event at her first attempt was fantastic.
Meanwhile in the boys event Eddie Ditchburn and Martin Williams were carrying the flag for Mayo. Young Eddie had to settle for the plate event which he duly won beaten Munster's James Kelly in a gripping five setter by three games to two and took the trophy home west of the Shannon to Mayo!!!!!!
In the main event and after a slow start and losing a group game early on Martin Williams Managed to regroup after the minor setback and went on to win his group and progress to the semi-final which he duly won 3-0. therefore awaiting his opponent for the final.
His opponent turned out to be his old foe Donnie Mullaly from club Donic, They had met a few times this season.
The final got underway and the first two games were evenly matched with both players taking one game each. Martin then got into his stride and took the next two games and the title. bringing another trophy back west of the Shannon to Mayo!!!!
