The second round of the Mayo Leagues took place on Sunday the 15th January 2012
In the PREMIERSHIP Martin Williams was in outstanding form on the day winning all 5 of his match's' and climbed to the top of the table. Martin played some quality table tennis throughout the day and was on the attack from the start. He never let his opponents settle and took command in all of his games, leaving everyone scratching their heads. Meanwhile the rest of the division were battling it out for the rest of the places. Eddie Ditchburn was playing well and apart from hiis loss to Martin managed to finish the day in second place.Close on his heels is Brian Dunleavy who was in sparkling form in the Connaught Leagues on the Saturday, Brian couldn't find the same again and finished in 3rd place on Sunday. Things are now hotting up in the premiership and it is going to be tough to win. the next round of League Match's are in March.
In the 1st Division Conor Brogan from Knockmore leads the way.Conor who was playing with a sore back dug deep, gritted his teeth and played through the pain,He never gave up or used it as an excuse, he was in great form and was determined not to give up the number 1 spot.He showed the older players in his division how to play and was dominating in his play all day. Meanwhile Niamh Molloy who made the trip up from Galway to play was close on his heels. Niamh was determined that the Girls are just as good as the boys and pushed Conor all the way losing only 1 of her Match,s.But Niamh has 2 games in hand over Conor and is determined to grab the number 1 spot. Close behind is newcomer Robbie Gill who is on their heels and greatly determined to upset the 2 ahead of him.Robbie shows promise to be a good player and will fight all the way to the finish,With 2 rounds of League Match's to go I am sure he will upset the other two ahead of him.
Sarah Dunleavy leads the way in Division 2 showing she has no nerves at a young age. Sarah is the only Girl in the division yet holds her own against the boys.Sarah played well all day and produced some outstanding table tennis.She is determined to keep the the top spot come the end of the leagues, so be warned boys.Meanwhile Michael Doyle from Bohola is determined to catch her, and played well to keep in touch with Sarah. Michael is another newcomer to table tennis,but has quickly improved to play some great table tennis.and will chase Sarah all the way.Aaron Fahy will be one to watch out for the next time around, Aaron plays with long pimples and poses a threat to the two leaders,and he will greatly improve as the weeks go by to the next round in March.
Adam Nealon came out of the pack in the 3rd division to top the table after round 2. Adam went about his business and played extremely well to take top spot of Aiofe Sweeney, his rival in the club. Both players hail from Knockmore Table Tennis Club in the club they are evenly matched,but Adam took the inititive on Sunday and defeated Aiofe to take the coveted number one spot in the division,Aiofe battled hard all day and despite losing to Aofe Nelson as well she managed to hold onto second place, Aiofe will not give up and will fight Adam all the way to the end. Young Anna Tigue played well.with her new blade to surprise a few Anna managed to beat Adam in their match,and this gave Anna confidence, at 8 years of age Anna is one to watch out for, and she sits in 3rd place at the halfway mark.
In the 4th Division young Jack O'Connor leads the way alongside Nicole Brady,with only 1 point between them. both Jack and Nicole played well as this was thier first event. The two of them showed no nerves and fought hard all day. this will be a tough division to win as both are evenly matched.Meanwhile Shauna Sweeney will not give up and will be determined to close the gap on the two leaders.
Mickey Keogh from Kiltimagh leads the way in the 5th Division,Mickey produced some fine performances on the day,and was in a determined mood,Mickey has improved lately and will be hard to beat in this division. both Conor Scully and Korey Hurson will not be giving up and will be determined not to let Mickey have it all his own way. Both Conor and Korey are both on 35 points,and will be going all out in the next round to try and catch the leader. thispromises to be a great division and could go down to the final day of matches to determine who will win.
